How to Play Solitaire (Klondike)

Welcome to classic Klondike Solitaire! This is one of the most popular card games in the world, requiring strategy, patience, and a bit of luck.

The Objective

The goal of the game is to move all 52 cards to the four Foundation piles located at the top right of the board. The foundations must be built by suit and in ascending sequence, starting from the Ace up to the King (A, 2, 3... J, Q, K).

The Setup

  • The Tableau: The main playing area consists of seven columns of cards. The first column has one card, the second has two, and so on. The top card of each column is face up.
  • The Stock: The remaining cards are placed face down in the top left corner. You can draw from this pile when you run out of moves on the Tableau.
  • The Waste: Cards drawn from the Stock are placed face up in the Waste pile. You can play the top card of the Waste pile onto the Tableau or Foundations.

Moving Cards

You can move cards between piles based on the following rules:

  • Cards in the Tableau must be built in descending order and with alternating colors. For example, you can place a Red 6 on top of a Black 7.
  • You can move a single face-up card or a fully sequenced stack of face-up cards to another column.
  • If a column becomes empty, you can only move a King (or a stack starting with a King) into that empty space.
  • When you expose a face-down card in the Tableau, it will automatically flip over so you can play it.

Tips for Winning

  • Always move Aces to the Foundation piles immediately.
  • Try to expose hidden cards in the columns with the largest face-down stacks first.
  • Don't empty a Tableau spot unless you have a King ready to put there!
